Water in the Badlands (In-Completion Painting)

This (in)completion work is a participatory installation painted at the 2025 Renew Gathering by attendees based on Isaiah 43.19. The work invites viewers to approach the canvas and make- to consider the process of renewal.

The renewal journey is an “incompleting” process, one in which the canvases of our lives are formed and forming. For a Christian, this in-completion is welcomed. The self-giving love of Jesus demonstrated in his death by cross is the ground of transparency and grace for our sin, by which the canvas of our lives are found complete in their incompleteness and where forgiveness is afforded to us. In the midst of the badlands, water breaks forth- Creation participates in this renewal as the people’s thirst is quenched, a cacophony of praise to Renewer breaks out.
